DESCRIPTION
This is our newest and LARGEST returning returning boomerang.
Made by world famous Australian boomerang maker Josh Skeen in Brisbane, Australia.
Currently the largest hand made made Aboriginal returning boomerang in Australia.
It will fly large distances when
thrown correctly – more than any other of our returning boomerangs.
It is painted with a variety of traditional Aboriginal symbolic art work, notably native animals in the middle and tracks on either side on a trail.
The "Billabong" range are handmade and hand-painted by Josh Skeen, a 49 Aboriginal artifact maker and third generation traditional boomerang maker. Josh was taught by his famous (now retired) father Joe Ian Skeen, who is widely acknowledged as the best and most experienced Aboriginal boomerang maker in Australia. Joe was taught by his father and grandfather over 70 years ago.
Josh Skeen continues the family tradition to this very day, making boomerangs using traditional Aboriginal techniques and designs.
SUITABLE FOR GOOD AND EXPERIENCED THROWERS ONLY.
This boomerang requires a thrower that is experienced and can spin with great technique.
This boomerang is NOT for learners.
In the hands of a "expert" it provides exceptional exceptional hovering and a wide and low flight path.
It will comer back to you at very fast speeds - not suitable for catching.
It flies and hovers exceptionally well.
LEFT OR RIGHT-HANDED
THROWERS
We cater for left and right-handed throwers and it does make a real difference
to your enjoyment. If you are left-handed, you will find it much easier to
throw a left-handed designed boomerang. The left-handed boomerangs are designed
to spin and circle in the opposite direction to the right-handed boomerang. All
our returning handmade boomerangs come in both versions so please make sure you
select your dominant hand throwing version.

WHAT IS A RETURNING
BOOMERANG
A boomerang is a curved throwing stick used mainly by Australian
Aboriginal people for hunting and warfare.
Boomerangs would often be decorated with carved drawings and paintings of
animals and traditional symbols.
The two main types of boomerangs used by Aboriginal people in Australia were
the returning and the hunter killers or kylie boomerang.
Unlike the hunter killer boomerangs that are heavier, these returning
boomerangs are lighter and meant to return to the thrower. They were primarily
used as a training boomerang for younger Aboriginal men, and were also used to
scare game and make animals like a flock of birds rise from a lake and fly in a
certain direction.
in summary, the traditional Aboriginal
returning boomerang:
A. When thrown they would return to
the thrower.
B. Most returning boomerangs look like a V upside down
C. Some Aboriginal tribes in North Queensland used a 4-pointed boomerang
D. Returning boomerangs were mainly used to teach young men how to throw
boomerangs – before using the Kylie hunting killer boomerang
E. Returning boomerangs were also used to scare game like birds and kangaroos
and to hunt for birds
